Elymus trachycaulus

Slender Wheatgrass is a cool-season bunchgrass native to every province in Canada. Known for its adaptability, Elymus trachycaulus thrives in a wide range of soils and climates, including dry, cold, and high-elevation sites. It establishes quickly, making it a useful option for soil stabilization, erosion control, and reclamation projects.

With its fine texture and upright growth habit, Slender Wheatgrass is also a valuable addition to native pasture mixes and pollinator-friendly plantings. It provides early-season forage for wildlife and livestock, pairs well with other native grasses and wildflowers, and typically lives for 3–5 years.
