About Us

At Northern Wildflowers, our mission is simple: to help everyone create habitat and outdoor spaces that spark joy.
Founded in 2012 in Sudbury, Ontario, Northern Wildflowers began as a small experiment in growing hardy, ecologically valuable wildflowers that could thrive in northern gardens while supporting pollinators and wildlife. What started as a backyard trial has grown into a national leader in Canadian-grown native seed, serving home gardeners, restoration practitioners, conservation organizations, and nurseries across the country.
We grow and source over 50 species of native wildflower, grass, shrub, and tree seed, produced on our 40-acre ecological farm and in partnership with a growing network of small organic farmers and skilled wild seed collectors from coast to coast. Whether you are planting a pollinator patch, restoring a meadow, or looking for custom wild collections for your nursery, we are here to help you bring more life to the land.
In 2020, we developed our own proprietary seed enhancements, using natural minerals to create chemical-free, biodegradable seed coatings that improve germination and restoration outcomes on challenging landscapes. In 2021, we expanded our commitment to a resilient Canadian seed supply chain with the launch of Cutleaf Seeds—our line of 100% Canadian farmer-grown vegetable, herb, and fruit seeds. This was a major step toward rebuilding local seed sovereignty and supporting small-scale Canadian farmers who grow high-quality, regionally adapted seed for home gardeners and market growers.
As of 2025, our team has grown to nine staff, supported by over a dozen contract growers across the country, all working together to expand Canada’s native seed capacity. We operate a 5,000-square-foot Seed Enhancement Lab and processing facility, where we clean, test, and package seed with care. Our seed can be found on the shelves of over 130 retailers from coast to coast and to date, we have shipped over 25,000 orders to home gardeners across Canada and beyond.
Staying true to our community roots, we donate at least 1% of annual sales to projects that promote food security, habitat restoration, schoolyard greening, and the enjoyment of wild spaces. Every seed you plant helps support meaningful, grassroots impact. Together, we’re growing habitat, strengthening Canada’s seed supply chain, and bringing more joy to outdoor spaces—one seed at a time.
