Sneezeweed (Helenium autumnale), also called Helen's Flower, provides abundant yellow blooms in late summer well into fall. Attracts bees and butterflies, and offers cheery yellow colour long after most other wildflowers have finished blooming.
The common name sneezeweed is not because it causes allergies (it doesn’t) but because of a traditional medicinal use to grind the dried leaves into a snuff which induces sneezing.
Growing Instructions:
Wet and cold stratification required. Mix seeds with moist substrate (vermiculite, perlite or moss) and place in a plastic bag and refrigerate for 6-8 weeks. Sow seed at 1/8 inch depth. Do not let seedling dry out while it is establishing.
OR
Sow directly outdoors in late fall to overwinter
