If you haven't grown ground cherries yet- there is no time like the present! This is a must-grow in every garden if you enjoy tropical, fruity flavours. Abundant, small, orange fruit enclosed in papery lanterns present on bushy plants. Ready for harvest when the fruit drops to the ground (hence the name "ground" cherry) and their papery lanterns are a beige colour. Benefits from starting indoors. Seed from a small organic farm in Quebec.
Companions: Basil, Borage, Carrots

Growing Instructions:

Germinates best in warm soil at 24-29°C with moderate moisture.
Plant Spacing : 2-3’ apart Row Spacing: 4-6’ apart.

Transplanting: Seed 1/8”deep, 5-6 weeks before last frost. Ground cherry seeds are slow to germinate, keep soil moist and be patient. Seed densely and transplant to cells or pots after seedlings develop true leaves. Transplant when days are warm and all risk of frost has passed, ideally avoiding night temperatures below 7°C.
