Meadow Blazingstar (Liatris ligulistylis) is a butterfly magnet. Many gardeners will vouch to its 'magical' ability to attract monarchs, especially when a patch of 10 or more plants are present. The flowers are also popular with bees and hummingbirds and seeds are a food source for goldfinches. This native to the grasslands of central Canada and the United States is hardy from zones 3-8. Our seed is sustainably wild-collected from native grasslands in the Brandon Manitoba area.
Wet and cold stratification required. Mix seeds with moist substrate (vermiculite, perlite or moss) and place in a plastic bag and refrigerate for 6-8 weeks. Sow seed at 1/8 inch depth. Do not let seedling dry out while it is establishing.
Sow directly outdoors in late fall to overwinter.
