How to Handle Your Tulip Bulbs
The best time to plant tulip bulbs is after the warm weather is done but before the ground freezes so that they don't start growing. Store your bulbs in a cool dark location until you are ready to plant them.
We think tulips look best when planted in groups. Place 10-20 bulbs per hole, approximately 6 inches deep and about 1/2 inch apart (think eggs in an egg carton). This method provides lots of visual impact in the spring- like a glorious bouquet coming out of the ground! Place your bulbs pointy side up and cover with soil.
Tips for Keeping Squirrels Away
Right after planting, cut a piece of chicken wire bigger than your hole and place on top of your soil. Use rocks or lawn staples to hold it down around the edges and leave this on until spring to help keep your bulbs safe from squirrels digging them up. As soon as the shoots appear, remove the chicken wire and store it for next year.
